A clear, practical answer
How to Hide Your Phone Number When Selling a Car
Most listing sites let you hide your number and take enquiries through their own messaging; it is a contact setting when you create the advert. If you want phone calls, use a second number for the duration of the sale. Cover the plate in photos, and ignore messages offering a deposit or sending a payment link.

Bu rehberi Türkçe okuWhy a number in an advert is a problem
The number in a listing is visible to everyone who crawls listing sites, not only to buyers. Dealers, warranty and insurance sellers, number-harvesting software and fraudsters all work from the same list.
Once the car is sold and the advert removed, the number stays on those lists and the calls continue for months. Both a phone number and a registration are personal data.
Ways to keep it hidden
In-site messages: choose the option not to display your number when you create the advert. A serious buyer writes, and you give your number to the person you decide to meet. The setting's name and place vary by site.
A temporary number: some sites show a forwarding number that works only while the advert is live. Turn it on if yours offers it.
A second line: a prepaid SIM or eSIM used only for the sale and closed afterwards. Do not put your own photo and name on messaging apps for that number.
The plate in photos
A plate does not reveal you by itself, but combined with your name and location in the advert it does. Cover it before uploading; many sites offer a tool for this at upload.
Do not share a photo of the registration document. Give a chassis number in writing, and only at the inspection stage.
Scams to recognise
A deposit sight unseen: a buyer who wants the car without viewing it, says a deposit has been sent, then claims to have overpaid and asks for a refund.
A fake payment link: a message saying your payment is waiting and asking for card or bank details. Listing sites do not send payment links by message.
A fake receipt: a screenshot shown before the transfer. Do not hand over the car until the money is in your account; an escrow or bank transfer at handover removes the risk.
A for-sale sign in the window
Writing for sale and a number on the glass is more exposed than the advert: everyone walking past reads it, and nobody remembers to remove it afterwards. A number left on the windscreen so people can reach you while parked has the same effect.
CarQR is not a sales channel; use the listing site's messaging for that. For being reachable about the parked car, a QR code in place of the number solves the same privacy problem.

Frequently asked questions
Will my car still sell if I hide my number?
Yes. Serious buyers send a message; what you lose is mostly bulk calls from dealers and sellers.
Do I have to cover the plate in advert photos?
It is not required, but it is sensible. A plate is personal data and identifies you when combined with the rest of the advert.
What if a buyer asks for a photo of my ID or registration document?
Do not send it. Those images are reused in fake adverts and fake contracts. Documents are shown in person at the transfer.
How do I stop the calls after the sale?
Remove the advert completely and close the second line if you used one. If your main number spread, block unwanted callers on the phone and through your operator.
